I had to get interested in bar codes for working reasons. Surprise ! there is nothing free on the net, it seems awfully intricate and we consider to have to buy a heap of special tools. In fact, after studying some scattered documentation all becomes very easy. I have made my tests with a basic materiel : HP laserjet printer to 300dpi, Canon inkjet printer and barcode reader DC 200 (The first price). In the following pages I will provide you all the software parts... free as usual.!
There is heaps of bar code types, I have only chosen a few types :
3 of 9 code (Also named code 39)
Very simple, alphanumeric and ideal for a personnal use.
EAN13 code (Also named Gencod)
Without this code the great distribution maybe would not be so large !
(UPC-A and EAN8 are also in this page)
128 code (Also named EAN 128))
A complex code which can encode all the alphabet in a very concise mode.
2 of 5 interleaved code

A numeric code which is used by EAN in ITF14 code.
PDF417 code
A two dimensionnal bar code which can encode more than 1000 bytes.
Datamatrix code
A two dimensionnal bar code which can encode more than
2000 characters on a very small array.
QR Code
The two-dimensional code from Japan that
allows coding more than 7000 characters.

OPENBARCODES project

It's a zip file gathering the whole of the downloads available on the pages of the different symbologies (sources whithout installer) but also the encoding functions in  a DLL written in C++
